WFSI benefits from global capabilities of ADM: range of innovations for the food industry is wider than ever

HEIDELBERG-EPPELHEIM/PARIS, October 17, 2016. WILD Flavors & Specialty Ingredients (WFSI), a business unit of Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM), will be presenting modern food concepts for vegan desserts, bars, snacks, jellies and “healthy” chewing gum at SIAL in Paris.

WFSI Cereal ClustersCustomers at SIAL will be able to see firsthand the product innovations that result from the combination of WFSI’s proven expertise in processing natural ingredients and the efficient infrastructure and global reach of ADM. Visitors to the exhibition in Paris will find out how the company is helping food and beverage manufacturers meet global demand for such as vegan, healthy and natural products, and always remains true to the maxim of “great taste”.

Vegan ingredients for innovative product alternatives
Vegan has developed worldwide from a niche movement into a broad consumer trend. The demand for vegan products is growing, and the number of new product launches speaks for itself: in the US, new vegan products more than doubled in the four years leading up to 2015. In Germany, the figure has positively exploded, going from 100 to 1,700*. Consumer expectations with regard to quality and variety are also rising. WFSI is able to meet these expectations with high-quality vegetable protein sources and proven expertise when it comes to great taste. In Paris, the company will be showcasing modern concepts for vegan desserts as an alternative to ice cream. To complement the desserts, our ingredients experts will be offering fruity toppings that are low in sugar and thus meet consumer demands for low-calorie treats. The exhibition portfolio also includes bars sweetened with fructose, as well as crispies and clusters containing soy and/or beans. Due to the ingredients used, these products are not only suitable for vegans; they appeal to a wide universe of consumers who value a high protein content.

“Xtreme Sour”: ice refreshments with an element of surprise
Sour is a flavor that has recently been carried over from well-known candies to other categories and even segments. With its new concept for water ice, WFSI is raising the stakes. A sour flavor alone is not enough: “Xtreme Sour” is the motto and stands for “extreme” flavor sensations. A combination of sweet, fruity mango and an exceptionally sour, exotic flavor can be achieved in various applications – as a liquid core in water ice or as a coating. This gives manufacturers a range of options for creating individual product innovations that cater to popular taste preferences but stand out from the established portfolio due to their intensity and presentation.

Innocent angels and little gangsters: candy in every natural color
“Innocent & Gangster” is the name of the new range of jellies that SIAL visitors can try at the WFSI exhibition stand. The jellies owe their countless different color varieties to the coloring foodstuffs of WFSI Rainbow Colors. For instance, light pastel colors can be combined with delicate “innocent” flavors, while intensive colors go well with full-bodied “gangster” flavors. Product developers can thus put all their creativity to use. And this is all possible with coloring foodstuffs that can be labeled without E numbers, thus meeting growing consumer demand for “clean labels”.

The combination of the global resources of ADM and WFSI’s own raw material sources – such as the cultivation of radishes in Valencia – guarantees a consistently high level of quality for coloring foodstuffs that are typically easily subject to cultivation-related fluctuations.
