Heart Health

Keeping Hearts Healthy -- Globally

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in developed countries, killing over 12 million people per year. At least 4 million of those deaths are due to high cholesterol levels. It is not surprising that cardiovascular/heart disease, and specifically high cholesterol, is a top concern to consumers (HealthFocus). No longer just a Western-world problem as it was once thought to be, cardiovascular disease is rapidly spreading to developing nations, thereby increasing the need for
methods to counter heart disease.

WILD Flavors, Inc. has a line of H.I.T.S. -- Health Ingredient Technology & Solutions® -- which provides a wide variety of health ingredients and concepts that address the latest health concerns of consumers while continuing to provide great taste.

D-Ribose

D-Ribose is the carbohydrate backbone for RNA and DNA and is an essential ingredient in the manufacture of ATP.  Many clinical studies have been done showing D-Ribose’s benefit in heart and skeletal muscles.  It provides cardiac energy needed to maintain normal heart function and maintains healthy energy levels in the heart and muscles.

Red Vegeceuticals™

Contains purple sweet potato, purple corn, purple carrot, rhubarb, tomato and red cabbage.  Delivers anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants that protect the body from free radical damage, support the immune system, reduce arterial plaque build-up, maintain healthy blood glucose levels and reduce inflammation.

Orange Vegeceuticals™

Contains carrot, pumpkins, sweet potato, paprika (from chili peppers) and Reishi mushroom.  Delivers beta-carotene, a source of vitamin A.  Essential for vision, fetal development, preventing oxidation of LDL cholesterol, protecting skin for UV light and supporting immunity.

Beta Glucan

Beta glucan is an anti-inflammatory that may help support healthy cholesterol levels. Certain levels of Beta Glucan allow for the introduction of an FDA heart-health claim on a product.

Carotenoids

Carotenoids, including lycopene, lutein esters, and beta carotene, may maintain healthy cholesterol levels by reducing the effects of oxidative stress. Carotenoids may also protect against free radical damage by acting as antioxidants. WILD Flavors offers lycopene, lutein and beta carotene carotenoids.

Coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q10 (Co-Q10) is a very powerful antioxidant. The heart muscle uses Co-Q10 for energy. Co-Q10 helps sustain heart health and blood pressure. Co-Q10 in a product will capture the increasing number of health conscious consumers.

Fiber

Fiber has been shown to help maintain healthy cholesterol and triglyceride levels and a healthy heart.

Grapeseed Extract

Grapeseed Extract may maintain healthy levels of LDL cholesterol. LDL oxidation can lead to hardening of the arteries and atherosclerosis, making the inhibition of this process extremely desirable.

Phytosterols

Phytosterols have been shown in clinical trials to maintain healthy blood cholesterol levels. Phytosterols facilitate the lowering of serum cholesterol. Certain levels of phytosterols enable the advertisement of an FDA health claim.

Theaflavins - Deflavored

Theaflavins are polyphenols found only in fermented teas, such as black tea. They are now available from WILD as an ingredient. Theaflavins have been shown to sustain healthy blood cholesterol levels in clinical trials.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids (FAs) from Fish

The long-chain Omega-3 FAs from fish, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), are the two most important long-chain FAs, valued for their contribution to vitality and health. The FDA has issued a qualified health claim for products containing EPA and DHA: "May help reduce the risk of coronary heart disease."

Resveratrol

Resveratrol is a polyphenol that is found in the skin of red grapes and Japanese knotweed. It has many beneficial health effects, such as maintaining proper immune function, healthy cholesterol levels and a healthy heart.

Polyphenols

Polyphenols may support healthy cholesterol levels. Polyphenols available from WILD are tea polyphenols and apple and olive polyphenols.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E scavenges free radicals that cause oxidation of LDL, thereby maintaining proper LDL cholesterol levels. Antioxidant nutrient content claims can be made with Vitamin E.
