What Amount of Heart Choice™ Sterol Esters Must Be Used for the "Heart Healthy" Claim?
Heart Choice™ Sterol Esters are clinically-proven to prevent absorption of dietary cholesterol. Certain levels of Sterol Esters in a finished product allow an FDA-approved health claim that Sterol Esters may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. Additionally, Sterol Esters are Generally Regarded as Safe (GRAS) for specific food use.
The minimum amount of Heart Choice™ Sterol Ester to make the heart health claim as approved by the FDA is 0.65 grams taken twice a day. Although lower amounts are acceptable and one will get some health benefits, the lowering of cholesterol will be much less and may not be significant.
