Halal: What is it?
Halal certification requires that products be free of pork, alcohol, or any animal product not derived in accordance with Islamic standards.
According to an article from Forbes Magazine, "Food companies are not going to be global unless they're halal," says Joe Regenstein, a professor of food science at Cornell University. The hope is that the Islamic-based standards will appeal to more than the Islamic community. Halal, trying to follow in the steps of organic products, focuses on "health and purity." The World Halal Forum will have a meeting in May to devise a set of global standards to make trade between nations easier--and more beneficial for customers and consumers.
WILD has recognized this growing opportunity and has a variety of products that are halal certified including for seasonings for savory, sweet, or bakery applications, and the new innovative taste modification technology, SavorCrave™.
